From 22 - 26 March 2021 a meeting "Solid Waste Recycling" took place virtually. It was organised by Sevim Tekin Anadolu Lisesi (Adana Turkey). The aims of the meeting were:

1) To inform the target group about the solid waste;

2) To raise their awareness into the facts about solid waste;

3) To encourage them to have an innovative perspective to solid waste by creating something new out of solid waste materials;

4) To direct them to take action to reduce their carbon footprint level;

5) Finally, to let them contribute in order to be eco friendly citizens for the Earth.

On the first day a pre-test was applied via Google forms. The same questionnaire was repeated on the last day after the students had participated in the workshops to prove that its results had improved because of new knowledge.

The students participated in several practical workshops.

  • In "Re-frame" the task was to make a photo frame from waste materials - foam plates, fabrics, buttons, crown caps, etc.
  • In the "Carbon Footprint" workshop the students watched a presentation on carbon footprint, its calculating and measures to be taken to decrease it. After watching they calculated their own carbon footprint and offered solutions in order to reduce it.
  • In the "Earth Day" workshop the participants inspired by the presentation of the significance of the Earth Day made posters as invitations to celebrate this day and not to forget how important it is to save our planet.

After the project the students:

Acquired new knowledge about Carbon footprint and its calculating;

Raised awareness of the significance of the Earth Day celebration;

Gained cultural knowledge about partner countries and especially Turkey;

Improved the English language and communication skills by working in groups during the workshops and presentation skills by presenting national food of each partner country;
